About this product
The Orion-Tr DC-DC converters isolated is not a smart charger and does not pretend to be one. It is a straightforward, robust voltage converter with one defining feature that sets it apart from the non-isolated Orion range: full galvanic isolation between input and output. This makes it the correct choice for installations where the source and load circuits must not share a common negative connection.
What Galvanic Isolation Actually Solves
In a non-isolated converter, the input and output negatives are internally connected. That works in a vehicle with a steel chassis, where everything is bonded to the same ground. It becomes a problem the moment two systems have separate grounds - or should have separate grounds but do not.
A fibreglass boat has no chassis ground. Battery banks may be grounded to separate bus bars, or to nothing at all. Running a non-isolated converter between them creates a negative path that did not previously exist. That path can carry stray currents, accelerate galvanic corrosion on underwater hardware, and introduce electrical noise into sensitive electronics.
Trailers present a related problem. The ground path through a 7-pin connector is thin, subject to corrosion, and unreliable at the best of times. An isolated converter makes the charging circuit independent of that questionable ground path.
The Orion-Tr isolated range provides 200V DC of galvanic isolation between input, output, and case. The two grounding systems remain electrically separate. Energy still transfers across the internal transformer, but the circuits never touch.
Remote On/Off - No High-Current Switch Required
A conventional high-power DC-DC converter requires a switch rated for the full input current. A 30A converter needs a switch capable of interrupting 30A of DC current. That switch is large, expensive, and difficult to mount in a confined space.
The Orion-Tr isolated includes a remote on/off connector that eliminates this requirement entirely. The converter can be switched on or off using a low-power switch, or automatically by the engine run/stop signal. The remote on/off circuit controls the converter's operation without carrying the main input current, so the switching device can be small, light, and mounted wherever it is convenient.
This is not a minor convenience. In vehicle and marine installations where the converter should only operate when the engine is running, the remote on/off connection allows integration with the ignition or engine start circuit without any high-current switching hardware.
Adjustable Output - Usable as a Battery Float Charger
All Orion-Tr isolated models with adjustable output can be configured as a battery charger. The output voltage is adjustable within the specified range, allowing the converter to deliver a float charge to a starter or accessory battery in a system with a different nominal voltage.
A 24V system can charge a 12V starter battery. A 48V system can maintain a 24V accessory bank. The same unit can serve as a voltage converter for sensitive electronics or as a battery maintenance charger, depending on how the output voltage is set. The flexibility is built into the hardware.
Parallel Operation - Scalable Without Limit
All models are short-circuit proof and can be paralleled to increase output current. An unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel. The total output current scales linearly with the number of units, and no special configuration is required beyond matching the output voltage settings across all paralleled units.
Two 24/12-30 units deliver 60A. Three deliver 90A. Four deliver 120A. For large auxiliary banks or high-current loads, this is a straightforward path to higher capacity without switching to a different product family.
Wide Input Range, Tight Output Regulation
The Orion-Tr isolated converters accept a wider input voltage range than many DC-DC products. A 12V input model accepts 8–17V. A 24V input model accepts 16–35V. A 48V input model accepts 32–70V. This tolerance is useful in real-world installations where battery voltage varies significantly - during charging, under heavy load, or when a long cable run introduces voltage drop.
The output side is equally precise. Output voltage tolerance is ±0.2V, and output noise is just 2mV rms. For equipment that requires a stable operating voltage - navigation instruments, communication radios, LED lighting systems, industrial control electronics - this level of regulation keeps everything running within specification.
Protection and Environmental Ratings
The Orion-Tr isolated includes protection against short circuit, overheating, and input undervoltage. Undervoltage shutdown and restart thresholds are defined for each model - 7V shutdown and 7.5V restart for a 12V input unit, 14V shutdown and 15V restart for a 24V input unit, 28V shutdown and 30V restart for a 48V input unit. This prevents the converter from draining the source battery below a safe level.
The IP43 rating applies when the unit is mounted with the screw terminals facing downwards. In that orientation, the enclosure is protected against dust and water spray at up to 60° from vertical - sufficient for engine bays, equipment lockers, and other installation locations where incidental moisture is possible but immersion is not.
An input fuse is built in on 12V and 24V input models. The 48V input models require external fusing.
Compact and Lightweight
The 100W models weigh 0.42 kg and measure 100 × 113 × 47 mm. The 220W models weigh 1.3 kg and measure 130 × 186 × 70 mm. The 360W models weigh 1.4–1.6 kg depending on the voltage configuration. They fit into equipment lockers, electrical cabinets, and vehicle compartments without demanding significant space.

Where the Orion-Tr Isolated Fits
The Orion-Tr isolated is not the right choice for every DC-DC application. It is the right choice when isolation is required, when input voltage varies widely, and when the output must remain stable regardless of what the source is doing. Typical installations include:
Fibreglass boats and yachts where the starter battery and house bank do not share a common grounding bus, and where galvanic corrosion is a persistent concern. The 200V DC isolation barrier prevents stray currents from travelling between the two battery systems, protecting underwater hardware and keeping navigation electronics free of ground noise.
Trailers and tow vehicles where the ground path through the hitch or 7-pin connector is unreliable. The isolated converter makes the charging circuit independent of the trailer connector ground, so the service battery charges correctly regardless of the condition of that connection.
Ambulances, service trucks, and emergency vehicles where the vehicle chassis and auxiliary equipment ground may be intentionally separated, or where sensitive communication and medical equipment requires a clean ground reference.
Off-grid and industrial systems where a 48V battery bank must supply 24V or 12V equipment on a separate ground system. The isolated 48/24 and 48/12 models provide regulated output without bonding the two systems together.
Automotive systems where sensitive electronics require stable, noise-free DC power. The tight output regulation and isolation from the noisy alternator circuit keep navigation systems, entertainment electronics, and communication equipment operating correctly.
Based on the Victron Energy architecture, Wysher integrates Orion-Tr isolated converters with battery banks, charging systems, and monitoring devices to deliver clean, reliable DC power in marine, vehicle, industrial, and off-grid installations. Through careful system engineering, we ensure:
✓ Full galvanic isolation - 200V DC between input, output, and case - eliminating ground loops and galvanic corrosion risk
✓ Wide input voltage tolerance from 8V to 70V, accommodating battery voltage swing and cable voltage drop
✓ Tight output regulation at ±0.2V with 2mV rms noise, suitable for sensitive electronics
✓ Unlimited parallel operation for scalable current capacity
✓ Remote on/off control for engine-dependent operation and low-power switching
✓ Comprehensive protection against short circuit, overheat, and source battery undervoltage
